Then, I wasn't going to write the poem (never am), for sure didn't want to translate it, and 1000% wasn't going to be a song. Go figure. Pinning both vocals and music was very hard here, and the Russian version is very Soviet/Russian bard tradition, which I didn't want too, actually, albeit I grew up on this tradition and love it dearly. I almost didn't post it.
By the way. One can record his own voice there now, so maybe some day I'll post my own Chiquita self, with horrid accent et al.
As a matter of fact, the singer's voice reminds me of Vysotsky, a younger version probably. I'm glad you posted it, translation, song and all, it's fantastic.

yes, it does a bit, but more so some other bards. I tried btw several(not by names, suno prohibits it now, but by trying to pin the voices- they all were a miss though. I wanted almost poetry recital - it's very hard there, albeit not impossible.
I hate AI with 450 Farenheit hatred, think we should smash it or else it will smash us. But it's also bitter to sing all my life knowing that I've no business singing, that only people who love me very dearly(and sing even worse)) can tolerate it. Them, and children. Children don't give a damn.
I like your translation. I’m not certain it can be improved upon but I know that you will try nonetheless. I think both musical versions carry the vision of the poem forward. I would probably give the edge to the Russian version, probably because it was your first choice. Portia is right about the sound of the voice, the intonation, a little growl now and again. I like that. 👏👏👏
You should do a Russian translation of Lament (you've already done Second Lament) and then a musical version. I think that would be cool—only if you want.
Your ballad, (i don't know by what genre you define your poem), sounds better in Russian, your native language. It's natural. And it is your poetic and linguistic talent helps you to translate so well. I can imagine, how hard to find the rhyme and rhythm at same time, not loosing your wording. That is why is easy to translate from English and hard to translate from Russian. My congratulations, you keep everything together.
I know nothing about AI, I only thought machines select among the existing voices. Voice for your ballad feats perfectly. Very pleasant to listen.
PS AI can definitely do something simple like that, and also write lyrics within seconds- but all in all, actually it's like having a music studio at home. (not that I ever was in a real music studio)

Or- you ask for certain qualities in voice, you can be very precise too, try to tell how song should be composed, what instruments, what genre, what mood. Granted, I'm on a very beginner level, so takes me lots of time

Thank God for children! I used to sing Спокойной ночи, малыши to my daughter as a lullaby, and she still remembers it fondly.
